Cheyenne, WY — Bill Bryant today announced his candidacy for Cheyenne City Council Ward 3, launching a campaign focused on accountability, public input, and preserving the values that define the community.
Bryant said his decision to run comes after years of watching the City Council move further away from the people it represents.
“Over the past few years, I have seen members of the City Council drift away from the people they were elected to serve,” Bryant said. “Too often, the voices of residents are ignored. You cannot represent the people if you are not willing to listen to them.”
At 67, Bryant brings decades of life experience and perspective to the race. He pointed to broader political trends in other states as a cautionary example of what can happen when government stops reflecting the will of its citizens.
“I have seen what happens when elected officials believe they know better than the people,” Bryant said. “I do not want to see Cheyenne or Wyoming head down that same path.”
Bryant said the turning point came after attending a City Council meeting last year regarding an ordinance that required federally licensed firearm dealers to provide sales records to the police department. After speaking in favor of repeal, he left the meeting with a clear sense that it was time to step forward.
“Listening to that debate, I felt like I had seen it before,” Bryant said. “That was the moment I decided to come out of retirement and run for City Council.”
His campaign is centered on protecting Wyoming’s way of life and ensuring local government remains responsive to the people.
“Do we want to preserve Wyoming’s values and lifestyle, or do we want to follow the path of states that have lost touch with their roots?” Bryant said. “That is the question before us.”
Bryant is also emphasizing the importance of voter participation, arguing that turnout plays a critical role in determining the direction of local government.
“Too many people assume their vote does not matter or that others will carry the load,” Bryant said. “That is how communities lose their voice. Voting is the most powerful tool we have, but it only works if people use it.”
Bryant is calling on Ward 3 residents to stay engaged and take part in upcoming elections.
“If we want to keep Cheyenne strong and grounded in the values we believe in, it starts with showing up,” Bryant said. “Real change happens when people get involved.”
