I’m running for City Council Ward 3 because over the past few years I have noticed that members of the City Council have been drifting left and turning a deaf ear to the public’s opinions and concerns. They seem to have forgotten that they were elected to represent us and not their own interests. To speak on behalf of the people, they must listen to the people—and they cannot do that if they do not hear their voices.
In my 67 years, I have watched California plant the seeds of liberalism and change from a conservative state, like what Wyoming is today, into what I see as the corrupt, woke, left-leaning state it has become. I now see the same seeds being planted here in Cheyenne and around the state.
It started in California with elected members of government believing they had a better understanding of what the people needed, rather than what the people actually wanted. In doing so, they stopped listening to the voice of the people and began forcing their own will upon them.
Last year, conservative members of the Cheyenne City Council wanted to repeal the ordinance that required all FFL dealers in the city to provide copies of their firearm sales to the police department. I attended this council meeting and spoke in favor of the repeal. After listening to the City Council members debate back and forth—the left against repeal and the right for repeal—I had a sense of déjà vu. I had seen this before.
It was at that point that I decided to come out of retirement and run for City Council. The vote carried, and the ordinance was repealed.
In Wyoming, registered voters are 77% Republican, 11% Democrat, and 12% other. So I ask you this question: how do all these left liberal Democrats keep getting elected? With 77% of the vote, the left should not have a foothold in Wyoming. But they do—how is this possible?
As I see it, with 77% of the vote, the reason they are getting elected into office is because people are saying to themselves, “Well, if there are so many others that will vote, then I don’t need to go downtown and cast my vote. I have other things to do today.” This is the wrong answer. I am sure that the entire 11% of Democrats are turning out en masse, and we cannot just sit by and continue to let this happen.
If it does, then the conservative state, in years ahead, will be no more. Then in 20 years, people will say to themselves, “I can’t understand why we are so much like California now.” It will have happened when “the people” had a chance to do something about it and chose to do nothing.
I am willing to start on this path to stop what I see as liberal corruption infesting our city, but I need you to come out and vote. The vote is the most powerful tool we have in this nation to keep us on track with the values we believe in.
The left also believes in their values, and they come out en masse to vote for them—and they are very loud about it. As conservatives, that is not our style. We do not go out bellowing with megaphones, chanting “down with this” and “down with that.” That is not how we do things.
As conservatives, we have the most powerful tool to keep Cheyenne and Wyoming from falling into what I describe as the pit of liberalism: go out and vote. Casting your vote is one of the most valuable tools you have in your toolbox—just take it out and use it. That is all it takes.
We have 77% of the votes as conservatives. There is no reason—absolutely no reason—why any left-leaning liberal should ever be elected to any office. We have always had the power to enact change. Now you just need to get up, walk out of the house, go down, and cast your vote. It doesn’t take that long.
Only then can we finally solidify this state as a true state of conservative and western values.
